Nigerian Army officer dies in domestic dispute, wife arrested

Tragedy has struck the Nigerian Army following the death of Lieutenant (Dr.) Samson Haruna, a young medical officer serving with the 6 Battalion, Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, Akwa Ibom State.

Haruna, who reportedly got married in April 2025, was said to have died from severe burns sustained during a domestic dispute with his wife on September 22, 2025.

Sources said the officer was initially treated at the Military Reference Section of the barracks before being transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH), where he later passed away.

Military and police authorities have confirmed that the deceased’s wife has been arrested in connection with the incident as investigations continue.

Lt. Haruna’s death has sent shockwaves through the military community, with colleagues describing him as a dedicated and promising officer whose life was cut short in tragic circumstances.
