Osogbo, Sept. 30, 2025 – At least three persons have been confirmed dead after operatives of the Osun State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, were ambushed by armed men in Akinlalu, Ile-Ife Local Government Area.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when a four-man Amotekun team on motorcycles responded to a distress call over suspected bandit attacks on farmlands.

According to a statement by Amotekun spokesperson, Yusuf Idowu Abass, the operatives came under heavy gunfire while heading to the community, during which two of their service rifles were seized by the attackers.

Reinforcements were immediately dispatched. However, at the T-junction leading into Akinlalu, the assailants allegedly blocked the road and opened fire on the backup team. The ensuing gun duel lasted more than an hour, leaving three persons dead and three suspects arrested, while several others fled with injuries.

A follow-up operation led to the recovery of the stolen rifles, as well as uniforms and berets allegedly used by the attackers to impersonate security personnel.

Osun Amotekun Corps Commander, Adekunle Isaac Omoyele, condemned the ambush but vowed the security outfit would not be intimidated.

“This cowardly ambush will not deter our operatives from carrying out their duties. The safety and security of our people remain our utmost priority, and we will continue to pursue and dismantle all criminal networks in Osun,” he said.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and share intelligence with security agencies, stressing that investigations were ongoing to expose the masterminds of the attack.

Amotekun assured that normalcy had been restored in Akinlalu and adjoining communities following the reinforcement of security presence.
