Abuja, Sept. 28, 2025 – The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has declared a nationwide strike, directing all its members across the country to withdraw their services beginning 12:01 a.m. on Monday, September 29, 2025.

The decision was announced in a statement issued after the Association’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Saturday.

According to the statement, members stationed in various field locations, including control rooms, panel operations, and outfield duties, have been instructed to commence withdrawal of services by 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 28, 2025. They are also to hold a round-the-clock prayer vigil seeking divine intervention for those in authority to compel compliance with Nigeria’s laws.

“All PENGASSAN members across all offices, companies, institutions, and agencies should withdraw their services effective 00:01 on Monday, September 29, 2025,” the statement read.

The union further directed its branches in the International Oil Companies (IOCs) to ramp down gas production and suspend supply to the Dangote Refinery and petrochemicals, insisting that “no man is bigger than our country.”

PENGASSAN noted that during the strike period, no intervention will be entertained in field locations except in cases where personnel and asset safety are threatened. Even then, clearance must first be obtained from the National Secretariat.

“All processes that involve gas and crude supply to Dangote Refinery should be let off immediately,” the NEC declared.

The statement added that the prayer vigil is meant to “call on God Almighty to give courage to those in authority to rein in Dangote and his co-travelers on the need to obey the laws of our country.”

The strike is expected to disrupt operations in the oil and gas sector nationwide if not resolved quickly.
