Nigeria Olympian Association to Hold National Summit in Abuja This July

The Nigeria Olympian Association (NOA) has announced that its National Summit will take place from July 22 to 24 at Zeus Paradise Hotel in Mabushi, Abuja.

The three-day convention will bring together past and present Olympians to deliberate on the future of sports development in Nigeria.

The summit is aimed at fostering collaboration, sharing of experiences, and devising actionable strategies to address the challenges faced by Nigerian athletes.

According to NOA President and former Nigerian basketball international, Olumide Oyedeji, the summit will include a statutory congress on July 23, in line with the association’s constitution. Key resolutions guiding the NOA’s operations are expected to be adopted during the congress.

One of the highlights of the summit will be a Dinner and Awards Night on July 24, themed “The Labours of Our Heroes Past.” The event is designed to honour outstanding Olympians and their families while spotlighting the welfare and recognition of retired athletes. Notable sports administrators who have promoted the Olympic spirit and youth development in Nigeria will also be honoured.

Past honourees have included former Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Sunday Dare; President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Engr. Habu Gumel; and the current Director General of the National Institute for Sports and former Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu.

In addition to the formal proceedings, the NOA will undertake a humanitarian outreach by visiting selected orphanages in Abuja as part of its commitment to community service.

The association says the summit marks a renewed effort to strengthen the bond among Olympians and reposition the body as a key stakeholder in national sports development.
