Abuja, Nigeria – Former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has declared his willingness to support any political coalition aimed at removing President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from power in the 2027 general elections.
Lamido made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Saturday, expressing his strong dissatisfaction with the current administration’s handling of national issues.
His remarks follow the recent launch of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) – a new opposition political movement spearheaded by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir el-Rufai. The ADA aims to provide a united platform to challenge the APC in the next presidential election.
Lamido, a senior member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said he would support “any arrangement” regardless of political labels, as long as it would dislodge the APC from power.
“I am part of any arrangement, no matter its nomenclature, to remove this government of incompetence, insecurity – a government that is dividing Nigeria firmly between North and South – out of power. I will go into any arrangement for that purpose,” he said.
He accused the Tinubu administration of deepening ethnic divisions and misusing state institutions to stifle opposition voices.
“This government is dividing Nigeria along ethnic lines and using the institution of the state in manipulating, coercing, and controlling the opposition,” Lamido alleged.
“The entire government today is not for Nigerians but for the political party. I will be part of any arrangement, configuration, if it is going to remove this government from power.”
Lamido’s comments signal a growing momentum among opposition leaders seeking a unified front ahead of the 2027 polls. Political observers say the success of such a coalition may depend on the ability of diverse opposition blocs to reconcile internal rivalries and present a credible alternative to the APC.
