A small aircraft carrying five passengers crashed into a suburban neighborhood in Pennsylvania on Sunday afternoon, resulting in multiple injuries and significant property damage.
According to the New York Post, the plane, identified as a Beechcraft A36TC, went down in Brethren Village, Manheim Township, shortly after departing from Lancaster Airport at approximately 3:15 p.m. EDT. The impact caused the aircraft to burst into flames, engulfing several nearby vehicles in the parking lot of a retirement community.
Shocking video footage from the scene captures the fiery aftermath, showing thick smoke billowing into the sky and the charred remains of vehicles. The tail of the aircraft, bearing the code N347M, was seen ablaze near a nursing home.
Emergency responders rushed to the crash site, and Route 501 in the area was temporarily closed as authorities worked to manage the situation. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro confirmed that state police were assisting local emergency teams.
“Our team at Pennsylvania State Police is on the ground assisting local first responders,” Governor Shapiro said in a statement. “All Commonwealth resources are available as the response continues.”
Air traffic control recordings revealed that the pilot had reported an issue with the aircraft’s door, which forced an emergency turn back to the airport. Moments later, the plane crashed. In the tense exchange, the pilot could be heard struggling to hear instructions due to wind noise caused by the open hatch.
Investigators are now working to determine the exact cause of the crash. Further updates will be provided as more details emerge.
