
Madrid (AP) – Paris Saint-Germain advanced to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals after defeating Liverpool in a tense penalty shootout at Anfield on Tuesday.
The French side won 1-0 on the night, leveling the aggregate score at 1-1 after Ousmane Dembélé capitalized on a defensive error early in the match. Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma emerged as PSG’s hero, making two crucial saves in the shootout to seal their place in the last eight.
PSG will face either Aston Villa or Club Brugge in the next round.
Barcelona, Bayern, and Inter Also Advance
Elsewhere, Barcelona eased past Benfica with a 3-1 home victory, securing a 4-1 aggregate win. Raphinha scored twice, bringing his Champions League tally to 11 goals this season, while 17-year-old Lamine Yamal became the youngest player in tournament history to score and assist in a knockout match.
Bayern Munich cruised past Bayer Leverkusen with a 2-0 away win, completing a dominant 5-0 aggregate victory. Harry Kane scored his 10th goal of the campaign and assisted another, as Bayern reached the quarterfinals for a record 23rd time in the Champions League era.
Inter Milan also moved on, defeating Feyenoord 2-1 at San Siro for a 4-1 aggregate win. Marcus Thuram’s early strike and a second-half penalty from Hakan Çalhanoğlu secured their place in the last eight, where they will face Bayern Munich.
The Champions League quarterfinal draw will determine the matchups as the competition heats up toward the final stages.
