Lookman Seals Juventus’ Worst Defeat of the Season

Atalanta delivered a crushing 4-0 defeat to Juventus in a crucial Serie A clash at the Allianz Stadium, humiliating the Bianconeri in front of their home crowd and taking a major step in the battle for third place. Goals from Mateo Retegui, Marten de Roon, Davide Zappacosta, and Ademola Lookman sealed a dominant performance for Gian Piero Gasperini’s side.

With only three points separating the two teams before kickoff, the game carried high stakes. Juventus, already struggling with multiple absences including Francisco Conceição, Douglas Luiz, and Gleison Bremer, failed to match Atalanta’s intensity.

The visitors took the lead in the 29th minute when Retegui confidently converted a penalty after a VAR review penalized Weston McKennie for handball. The goal marked Retegui’s 22nd of the season and set the tone for Atalanta’s dominance.

Juventus barely had time to regroup after halftime when De Roon pounced on a defensive error to double Atalanta’s lead in the 46th minute. The midfielder capitalized on Lloyd Kelly’s misplaced pass, triggering a rapid counterattack that ended with De Roon smashing home after multiple rebounds.

The floodgates fully opened in the 66th minute when a slick passing exchange between Zappacosta and Sead Kolašinac left the Juventus defense in disarray. Zappacosta finished the move with a clinical shot through Kelly’s legs, making it 3-0.

The final blow came in the 77th minute when Lookman took advantage of a defensive slip from substitute Dušan Vlahović. His strike, aided by a slight deflection, wrong-footed Michele Di Gregorio and found the net, sending a wave of Juventus fans heading for the exits.

Juventus barely threatened throughout the match, with their best chance coming from a Weston McKennie header, which was brilliantly saved by Marco Carnesecchi. Atalanta’s dominance was reflected in the stats, with 19 shots to Juventus’ 9 and a clinical performance in front of goal.

What’s Next?

This resounding victory propels Atalanta further up the table, while Juventus are left to pick up the pieces after their worst home defeat in years. Massimiliano Allegri’s side now faces mounting pressure as they struggle to regain form in the final stretch of the season.
