Former Anambra State governorship candidate and ally of Peter Obi, Valentine Ozigbo, has declared that he sees no future for the Labour Party (LP) and believes Obi will not contest for the presidency under its platform.
Ozigbo, who was a key figure in Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, made this assertion while speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television.
“I don’t see a future for the Labour Party. I’m happy to live with that assertion, and I would like to be proven wrong,” he said.
He further claimed that Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, has switched parties multiple times and is unlikely to remain in LP if he decides to run again.
“Peter Obi left ANPP for APGA, then PDP, and later Labour Party. I can almost guarantee that if he wishes to run for election again, it won’t be under Labour Party,” Ozigbo stated.
Ozigbo’s comments come days after he defected from LP to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing his commitment to a greater vision for Anambra State. He noted that he had informed Obi of his decision as a mark of respect for his leadership.
While not speaking on Obi’s behalf, Ozigbo hinted at ongoing discussions about political coalitions that could shape the future of Nigeria’s opposition.
