Abia State Police command has revealed that it has arrested five suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a couple at Etiti-Ulo, Bende in Bende Local Government of the state.
The command said it equally arrested another 136 crime suspects comprising 105 males and 31 females in different parts of the State since the assumption of office of Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa on September 18.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, Maureen Chinaka who made these known while parading some of the arrested suspects before newsmen on Thursday, said John Vincent ‘m’, 50, Emmanuel Sunday ‘m’, 45, and Amazi Efiong ‘m’, 70, all from Nsiwo, Itumbauzo, were arrested for the murder of Mr. Jacob Udo ‘M’, 78, and Mrs Dorcas Jacob ‘F’, 73.
Chinaka disclosed that following credible information, two other principal suspects were also arrested in connection with the crime and the deceased phone was recovered from them.
Chinaka equally disclosed that within the period under review, the command rescued 5 abducted children, 1 infant, and 17 victims.
“Within this period, there was also the recovery of 5 locally made single barreled shotguns, 4 locally made double-barreled shotguns, 2 locally made single barreled long guns, 1 Dane gun, 1 pistol, 5 live cartridges, 1 expended cartridge, 1 vehicle, 1 Auto-rickshaw (tricycle), 2 motorcycles and 2 bicycles.”
The Command further said that it recovered 56 rustled cattle, 2 saw blades, among others.
Chinaka disclosed that the Command took strategic steps in combating criminalities within the State, explaining that the approach led to the successful reduction of incidents of murder, armed robbery, kidnapping, vandalism of government properties, rape, and defilement.
Speaking in his office while addressing the press, Abia State Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa said that the Police under his watch would continue to secure Abia State.
He disclosed that police arrested one of the suspected hoodlums that attacked a Police facility in Owerinta and blew it up with dynamite.
Some of the arrested suspects who spoke to the press during the parade, pleaded for mercy, promising to turn good leaf if let off the hook.
