Popular social media influencer Okuneye Idris, known as Bobrisky, was forcefully removed from a KLM flight bound for Amsterdam and detained by immigration officers late Thursday night.
The cross-dresser took to Instagram to inform his followers of the incident, claiming he sustained injuries during an altercation with the officers.
Bobrisky alleges that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is behind his detention. This incident follows a previous encounter on October 22, when he was intercepted at the Sème border while reportedly trying to flee the country.
The controversy surrounding Bobrisky intensified earlier this year when, in April 2024, he was sentenced to six months in prison by the Federal High Court in Lagos for naira abuse. Although initially incarcerated at Kirikiri Prison, reports surfaced suggesting he spent only three weeks there before being discreetly transferred to a private location. This led to widespread speculation of bribery, with allegations that a ₦15 million payment was made to secure his early release and favorable conditions.
The situation further escalated in September 2024 when social media influencer VeryDarkMan shared an audio recording in which Bobrisky allegedly claimed that music artist Falz and his father, human rights lawyer Femi Falana, approached him during his imprisonment, requesting ₦10 million for a presidential pardon.
In response to the allegations, Falana and Falz issued a cease-and-desist letter on October 16, demanding a retraction and public apology for what they termed defamatory statements. Bobrisky, however, denied making the claims and urged the Falanas to hold VeryDarkMan accountable for the leaked recording.
