Kano, Nigeria — October 27, 2024
The newly elected 44 council chairmen and 484 councillors of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State have officially taken office following an oath-taking ceremony held at the Government House on Sunday. The ceremony was administered by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Isa Dederi.
During the event, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf congratulated the officials on their electoral success, describing the victory as a significant achievement for democracy in Kano State. He commended the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) for conducting a free, fair, and peaceful election, which he noted facilitated the timely inauguration.
In his address, Governor Yusuf called on the new officials to serve with honesty, integrity, and transparency. He urged them to remain accountable to their constituents and not to betray the trust placed in them by the electorate.
“You are expected to work with dedication and responsibility, serving the people’s interests above all else,” Yusuf stated, directing the officials to assume their respective duties on Monday, October 28, 2024.
The swearing-in follows KANSIEC’s announcement on Saturday, declaring NNPP’s victory in all 44 chairmanship and 484 councillorship positions across the state.
