In a bold move, former UFC champion Conor McGregor has announced his intention to run for President of Ireland in 2025.
Expressing frustration with the current leadership, McGregor, 36, declared his candidacy with a promise to challenge the political establishment and return power to the working class.
“These charlatans in power are robbing the working man and destroying families and small businesses,” McGregor posted on social media. He emphasized the authority a president holds, including the power to summon and potentially dissolve the Dáil, Ireland’s legislative body. “I would give the people of Ireland the answers they deserve by day’s end or halt the government altogether. The people deserve better, and I am the logical choice,” McGregor added.
If successful, McGregor’s political venture would mark the end of his delayed return to the UFC. His comeback was further stalled after a recent injury, and UFC President Dana White has confirmed that McGregor’s return is not currently being considered, leaving his opponent Michael Chandler in uncertainty.
As of now, Chandler has not commented on McGregor’s shift toward politics.
