Tragedy Strikes Enugu as family of four die in their Sleep

Tragedy  struck Amaeze Owere community in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, where four family members were found dead in their home.

Witnesses said they may have died in their sleep.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday, September 1, 2024, has plunged the entire community into mourning, as the cause of the deaths remains unclear.

The victims, a woman, her daughter, and two other family members, reportedly went to bed after having their evening meal, only to be discovered dead the next morning. The traditional ruler of the community, Igwe Felix Ugwu, confirmed the heartbreaking event, stating that the community is still in shock.

Igwe Ugwu explained that one of the victims, identified as Mama Chijioke Amaeze, had been caring for her ailing mother in her home before the tragic incident. The mysterious deaths claimed the lives of Mama Chijioke, her mother, her sister, and her daughter.

“Yes, it has been reported to my palace that a family of five slept in their house last Saturday, and four died in their sleep. The surviving member was rushed to the hospital and is responding to treatment,” the monarch said. He added that the community has never witnessed such a tragedy and is determined to work with authorities to uncover the cause.

The royal father also mentioned that despite the Nigeria Police Force’s involvement, the community has decided to seek spiritual guidance to help unravel the mystery behind the deaths.

A senior police officer from the Nsukka Police Area Command, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that the four bodies have been taken to a mortuary in Nsukka town for autopsy and further investigation.

The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, as the community grapples with the loss of the four family members.
