Kano, Nigeria – Three pedestrians were killed and four others seriously injured following a truck accident in Imawa town, Kura Local Government Area of Kano State, officials confirmed on Saturday.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, in a statement released by his Press Secretary, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, expressed shock and sorrow over the incident, which occurred shortly after Friday’s Jumu’ah prayers. The truck reportedly lost control, veering off the road and striking seven pedestrians.
“Tragically, three individuals lost their lives, while four others are currently receiving treatment for various injuries,” the governor’s statement read.
In response to the tragedy, Governor Yusuf extended condolences to the victims’ families and pledged to enhance road safety in the area. He announced plans to construct a bridge at the accident site, aimed at preventing future incidents.
“The bridge will not only improve traffic flow but also provide a safer route for both pedestrians and motorists,” the governor added. He further noted that accidents on the busy Kano-Zaria expressway have become frequent, underscoring the need for immediate action.
The Kano State government reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of its citizens through infrastructure development.
