Dr. Robinson Okosun, a renowned psychologist and former Nigerian volleyball star, has lauded the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) under the leadership of Ibrahim Gusau for its initiative to recognize and reward retired staff members.
This marks a significant departure from previous administrations that overlooked retirees, leaving them unrewarded after years of service.
The commendation came during a vibrant ceremony held on Saturday at the NFF/FIFA Technical Centre within the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. A total of 20 retired NFF employees, who had served the organization from 2019 to the present, were honored and received financial benefits as a token of appreciation.
“We cannot thank the Gusau administration enough for this gesture,” Dr. Okosun stated. “For years, NFF staff who retired simply left without recognition or appreciation. The Gusau administration has set a commendable precedent, and I hope future NFF administrations will continue this practice.”
Dr. Okosun, who retired as a substantive Director in the NFF Technical Department, was among those honored at the event. His distinguished career included roles such as special assistant to the NFF President, Head of Media, Team Psychologist to the Super Eagles, and Head of the Psychology Unit.
Other retirees honored at the ceremony included Bola Oyeyode (Director, Competitions), Lawrence Katken (Director, Competitions), Babatunde Akinsanya (Director of Finance & Admin), Siji Lagunju (Deputy Director, Technical), Abdulrafiu Yusuf (Deputy Director, Technical), John Adelowo and Karim Bako (Deputy Directors, Accounts), and Yohanna Mathias (Deputy Director, Audit).
Additional honorees were Sunday Okayi (Assistant Director, Competitions), Lami Bitrus (Chief Accountant), Edith Uzoechi (Chief Confidential Secretary), Emmanuel Adesanya (Assistant Chief Executive Officer), Sherifat Olabode (Assistant Chief Confidential Secretary), Abosede Awojana (Higher Executive Officer), Ebenezer Alatake (Chief Clerical Officer), Eunice Lawson (Chief Clerical Officer), Lawal Adamu (Chief Driver), Marcel Edikpa (Chief Driver), and Ibrahim Makeri (Chief Driver).
This gesture by the Gusau administration has been widely praised as a meaningful way to acknowledge the dedication and contributions of those who have served the NFF over the years.
