North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un has reportedly ordered the execution of up to 30 officials.

According to reports from the New York Post, the execution was over their alleged failure to prevent severe flooding and landslides that led to the deaths of approximately 4,000 people this summer, according to South Korean media.

The executions, which reportedly occurred late last month, were said to involve 20 to 30 officials charged with corruption and dereliction of duty. These claims were made by an official within Kim’s regime and reported by TV Chosun. The identities of the executed officials have not been independently verified.

This move follows a previous report from the North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), which stated that Kim had directed authorities to “strictly punish” those responsible after devastating floods ravaged the Chagang Province in July. The disaster not only claimed thousands of lives but also displaced more than 15,000 people.

Among those reportedly dismissed by Kim during an emergency meeting was Kang Bong-hoon, the Provincial Party Committee Secretary of Chagang Province since 2019. While Kang’s fate remains unclear, the reported executions underscore the severe consequences for officials deemed responsible for the disaster.

Independent verification of these executions remains pending, as reports continue to emerge from the highly secretive state.
