Navy Sailing Club Ojo Shines at 2024 Nigerian National GP14 Championship

Lagos, Nigeria – The Navy Sailing Club Ojo made a strong showing at the 2024 Nigerian National GP14 Championship, sponsored by TotalEnergies held at the Lagos Yacht Club on September 7, 2024.

The event, which attracted sailors, members, and guests, combined competitive sailing with vibrant entertainment.

Led by Captain Festus Adewuyi, the Navy Sailing Club’s executive team and sailors took part in the prestigious event, which featured 18 boats in the competition. Out of the 18 participants, only 9 boats managed to complete the race, with six trophies awarded to top performers.

The Navy Sailing Club claimed two of the six trophies, further solidifying their reputation in the sailing community. The trophies were presented by key figures, including TotalEnergies’ General Manager, Directors of Marketing and Finance, and Lagos Yacht Club Commodore John Shidiak. Captain Festus Adewuyi also had the honor of presenting the trophy to the second runner-up of the boat race.

Among the Navy Sailing Club executives present were Vice Commodore Chima Sampson, Rear Commodore Olabode Simon, Treasurer Monday Samson Ibagui, and Sailing Secretary Warrant Officer Monday Orji.

During the event, Captain Adewuyi presented the Navy Sailing Club’s AGM bag and magazine to Commodore John Shidiak of the Lagos Yacht Club. The two clubs also discussed potential areas of collaboration, including joint training programs, the annual calendar of activities, and boat maintenance.

The 2024 GP14 Championship was a successful display of sportsmanship, with the Navy Sailing Club Ojo proudly representing its naval tradition in competitive sailing.
