Enthusiastic Galatasaray fans stayed up until 4:00 am Tuesday morning to receive Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen upon his early morning arrival in Istanbul, Turkey.
According to goal.com, the 25-year-old landed at 4:00 a.m. to a raucous reception from fans eager to catch a glimpse of the club’s latest signing.
Osimhen is on the verge of completing a loan move from Serie A club Napoli to the Turkish Super Lig giants. The forward, who had been linked with Chelsea in the closing days of the Premier League transfer window, was also heavily speculated to join the Saudi Pro League.
However, he has opted to remain in Europe, taking on a new challenge with Galatasaray.
Napoli, having secured the services of Belgian international Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea, are reportedly prepared to finalize the deal.
Galatasaray confirmed the ongoing negotiations in a statement: “Official negotiations have begun with the football player and his club SSCN Napoli SPA regarding the temporary transfer of professional footballer Victor James Osimhen.”
The excitement among Galatasaray supporters was palpable, with many fans staying up late into the night to welcome Osimhen. The striker waved and applauded his new supporters as he was escorted by car through the flare-lit streets of Istanbul.
Osimhen, who scored 76 goals in 133 appearances for Napoli and played a key role in their 2022-23 title-winning campaign, is seeking to reignite his career after a quieter season last year, where he netted 15 goals in Serie A.
