Youths foil kidnap attempt in Ikorodu, suspects arrested

A group of youths in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State successfully foiled an attempted kidnapping on Ebute Igbogbo Road on Tuesday, resulting in the arrest of three suspects.

According to information gathered by PeakNews Online, the suspects, identified as Taiwo Olayinka (30), Azeez Sodiq (33), and Saheed Moonstruck (23), were apprehended by local residents and later handed over to the Lagos State Police Command.

A viral video circulated on social media on Wednesday showed the suspects, visibly injured and stripped, sitting inside a car while being interrogated and beaten by the youths who intercepted them after the failed abduction attempt.

Confirming the incident, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, shared updates on his X (formerly Twitter) account. He stated that the arrested suspects were being held in police custody and that efforts were underway to capture two additional suspects who escaped the scene.

“Three suspects — Taiwo Olayinka, Azeez Sodiq, and Saheed Moonstruck — have been in our custody since the incident occurred on Tuesday. Efforts are ongoing to arrest the remaining two suspects who fled,” Hundeyin said. He also noted that an investigation had been launched to determine whether the suspects were involved in kidnapping or other criminal activities.

This incident follows a similar case in July, where residents of Okoba Street in Orile-Agege thwarted another kidnapping attempt. Four armed men, who had previously robbed a pharmacy, attempted to abduct the store owner but were stopped by residents after their vehicle became stuck on a damaged section of the road.

Police investigations are ongoing into both incidents.
