In a concerted to bring Victor Osimhen to Chelsea, former Blues stars John Obi Mikel and Didier Drogba have reportedly been in close contact with the Napoli striker.
The 25-year-old Nigerian has been a target for Chelsea over the past few years, and speculation around his move to Stamford Bridge has intensified following recent developments.
Osimhen, who has been a key player for Napoli, is now expected to leave Italy this summer. The chances of his departure have surged after Napoli confirmed that the forward has submitted a transfer request, signaling his intent to exit Antonio Conte’s squad. With a release clause set at £110 million, the striker is seen as a prime target for Chelsea.
Mikel, now 37, has openly discussed his efforts to persuade his compatriot that Chelsea is the ideal destination. He also confirmed that Didier Drogba, another Chelsea legend, has joined the campaign to bring Osimhen to London. Speaking in a recent video, Mikel highlighted the qualities that make Osimhen an ideal fit for the Blues.
“We don’t really need somebody who’s going to come in and be feeding and creating chances,” Mikel said. “We want somebody who can finish, score goals, the tap-ins. Someone like Erling Haaland. That’s something Victor Osimhen will bring to Chelsea. I hope that Chelsea fans will finally see him come to the club. I’ll make sure I send him those text messages and calls, making sure Chelsea is his top priority!”
Mikel further suggested that Osimhen is open to the idea of joining Chelsea, based on their conversations. “He seems like he loves the club. He seems like he wants to come to Chelsea,” he added, fueling hopes among fans that a deal could be on the horizon.
