Kano, Nigeria – Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has declared a 24-hour curfew following extensive looting and vandalism of public buildings in the state. The curfew was announced on Thursday in response to the escalating violence that erupted during ongoing protests.
Speaking to the people of Kano State, Governor Yusuf expressed his dismay over the actions of individuals who have hijacked the protests, resulting in widespread destruction of public property. “I am deeply dismayed by the actions of some individuals who have hijacked the ongoing protests in Kano State, resulting in the vandalism of public property,” he said.
While acknowledging the citizens’ right to protest, the governor condemned the destructive behavior of those involved. “While I acknowledge the right of citizens to express their grievances, I strongly condemn the destructive behavior of these disgruntled elements,” Yusuf stated.
To ensure the safety of lives and property, Governor Yusuf imposed a 24-hour curfew across the state, effective immediately. He also directed security agencies to take decisive action against anyone found inciting violence or engaging in unlawful activities. “To safeguard lives and property, I have decided to impose a 24-hour curfew across the state, effective immediately. I have also directed security agencies to deal decisively with any person or group found fomenting trouble or engaging in violent activities,” the governor warned.
Governor Yusuf urged all law-abiding citizens to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as they work to restore order and maintain the rule of law throughout the state. “This administration will not tolerate any actions that threaten the peace and stability of our great state. I urge all law-abiding citizens to remain calm and cooperate with the security agencies as they work to restore order and maintain the rule of law in all parts of the state,” he concluded.
