The Uma-Okoro Foundation marked its 10th anniversary with this year’s basketball camp at the Warriors Basketball Courts in Ilupeju, Lagos, continuing its mission to support underprivileged children.
Founder of the Uma-Okoro Foundation emphasized the camp’s role in fostering unity, empathy, love, hard work, and competition.
Uma-Okoro expressed satisfaction in helping the needy through charitable efforts, aided by his former Dodan Warriors teammates who are now coaches and promote the game.
“This year’s camp saw at least 250 kids participating. Through our educational support program, we offer scholarships to selected children. We’re also planning a championship to give these kids opportunities to play abroad,” he said.
The Foundation is continually planning more competitions to help children grow and pursue their basketball dreams both locally and internationally.
“We’re considering holding the camps twice a year to provide more opportunities for campers. We also plan to organize a tournament where they can showcase their skills against other teams. We’re still working on the logistics, but we hope for success,” Uma-Okoro added.
He noted the strong engagement and enthusiasm from the campers. “Campers had fun and improved their skills in shooting, dribbling, and teamwork. There was increased participation from local schools, states, and communities. Campers received recognition and awards, making themselves and their teams proud. Smooth operations, including scheduling, communication, and safety measures, contributed to the overall success.”
The Foundation’s community outreach program also benefited children in Amuwo Odofin, providing them with food items, clothes, shoes, books, and chocolates.
