Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram and Russian-born billionaire, was released from police custody in France on Wednesday.
He was subsequently transferred to court for questioning, where he may face indictment, according to reports.
Durov, who was arrested over the weekend, was seen leaving the anti-fraud office near Paris in what appeared to be a police vehicle on Wednesday afternoon, CNN reported.
French prosecutors have stated that Durov will undergo “initial questioning and possible indictment” at a Paris court.
