Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) are reportedly at risk of being expelled from the Champions League due to an ongoing €55 million wage dispute with former star Kylian Mbappe.
According to reports monitored on goal.com, the conflict stems from unpaid wages, including a €36 million signing bonus, the last three months of salary, and an ‘ethics bonus’ for the period from April to June 2024, that Mbappe claims he is owed by the Ligue 1 champions.
Mbappe, who recently moved to Real Madrid as part of their ‘Galactico’ lineup, remains in contact with PSG regarding the unresolved financial matter. The 25-year-old World Cup winner has taken legal action, with his lawyers reportedly bringing the case to the Ligue de Football Professionnel’s (LFP) legal committee and involving the French Football Federation (FFF) as well as UEFA.
According to reports from Le Monde, the LFP’s legal committee has the authority to impose a transfer ban on PSG until the dispute is resolved. Additionally, UEFA has the power to revoke PSG’s licence for European competitions, potentially barring them from participating in the Champions League if the matter is not settled satisfactorily.
As the situation unfolds, PSG’s Champions League future remains uncertain, with the club under pressure to resolve the financial dispute to avoid severe penalties.
