Protest: News Central TV condemns recent attacks on journalists

 

News Central TV has condemned a recent attack on its reporters by unidentified thugs during coverage of ongoing protests in Lagos State.

The media outlet’s Managing Director, Kayode Akintemi, met with Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, to express serious concerns over the incident and demand protection for journalists.

Akintemi described the attack as a brazen assault on press freedom and a blatant disregard for journalists’ fundamental rights to perform their duties without fear or intimidation. He delivered a formal letter of complaint regarding the harassment of News Central’s journalists and stressed the importance of police protection for media personnel, who are essential to the functioning of a democratic society.

During the meeting, Akintemi presented a detailed report of the incident, including video evidence, and urged swift action to apprehend the perpetrators. Commissioner Fayoade assured Akintemi of a thorough investigation and promised to bring the culprits to justice. He also pledged to enhance security measures for journalists covering protests and other public events.

Mr. Akintemi expressed his appreciation for the Commissioner’s prompt response and reiterated the need for collaboration between the police and the media to promote a safe and conducive environment for journalism to thrive.
