The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun to be the next Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN). This decision was made during a sudden closed-door meeting held on Thursday in Abuja.
In addition to the CJN recommendation, the NJC also put forward names for 27 new judges to be appointed to various state high courts. The meeting where these decisions were made is still in progress.
Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the current CJN, is set to retire on August 22, upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70.
