
Troops from the 6 Brigade Jalingo have arrested two suspects, Umar Zubair and Isah Abdulahi, in the Magami area of Jalingo Local Government, along with 436 machetes believed to be intended for distribution to criminals planning to incite unrest.
Capt. Olubudunde Oni, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade, announced the arrests in a press release on Saturday. The Brigade also reported foiling a potential cattle rustling operation and apprehending five additional suspects in various operations across the state.
According to Capt. Oni, the successes were achieved through credible intelligence and urged the public to report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
The statement detailed several operations conducted by the Brigade:
On August 7, troops engaged suspected bandits attacking a Fulani settlement in Katlong Village, Karim Lamido Local Government Area. During the encounter, one suspect, Yusuf Musa, was arrested with an AK-47 rifle and 20 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition. Additionally, 118 cows were recovered and returned to their rightful owners.
On August 6, troops received intelligence about bandits heading to Mashingi Village market. They laid in wait and arrested four suspects: Yusuf Hassan, Mohammed Mamman, Haruna Illa, and Hammadu Shaibu. The troops recovered a motorcycle, four mobile phones, and ₦57,000 from the suspects.
Following a tip-off on August 9 regarding suspects gathering and preparing machetes for criminal activities, troops mobilized to Magami in Jalingo Local Government and arrested Zubair and Abdulahi, seizing 436 machetes, four filling machines, one mobile phone, and various fabrication tools.
Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their quick and effective response in safeguarding the people of Taraba State. He reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to maintaining peace and security throughout the country and urged citizens to stay vigilant and report suspicious activities.
General Uwa emphasized that the Nigerian Army would continue collaborating with other security agencies and community leaders to combat criminal activities in Taraba State and its surroundings. He assured the public that the arrested suspects would be handed over to appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution.
