Nigeria, Egypt, Uganda Face-off in FIBA U18 AfroBasket Billed for South Africa

The draw ceremony for the 2024 FIBA U18 AfroBasket Men and Women has been successfully completed in South Africa PeakNews Online reports.

The Nigerian men’s team has been placed in Group B alongside Egypt, Angola, and Uganda. With seven titles to their name, Nigeria’s men aim to secure an eighth championship under the guidance of Coach Humphrey Fubara Onyenabor, who led them to qualification at the FIBA Africa Zone 3 U18 Qualifiers in Abidjan earlier this month.

In Group A, Mali, Cote d’Ivoire, Cameroon, and Senegal will compete, while Group C features host South Africa, Morocco, Zambia, and Rwanda.

For the women, Nigeria is drawn into Group C with Egypt, Zimbabwe, and Uganda. The Nigerian team, having dominated their qualifiers in Abidjan, will look to continue their strong performance. Group A for the women includes host South Africa, Tunisia, Cameroon, and Rwanda.

Defending champions Mali will begin their title defense in Group B, facing Morocco, Zambia, and Angola.

The championship, serving as a qualifier for the 2025 FIBA U19 World Cup, is set to run from September 1 to 14.
