Jennifer Lopez Files for Divorce From Ben Affleck After Two Years of Marriage

Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck are ending their marriage, marking the second time the couple has parted ways.

Lopez, 55, filed for divorce from Affleck, 52, on Tuesday, August 20, in Los Angeles County Superior Court, citing April 26, 2024, as their date of separation. The filing comes just over two years after their July 2022 wedding.

Lopez, who submitted the paperwork without the assistance of a lawyer, is representing herself in the divorce proceedings. While the couple originally tied the knot in Las Vegas on July 17, 2022, they celebrated a more traditional wedding ceremony in Georgia a month later. August 20 coincides with the second anniversary of that event.

According to sources, no prenuptial agreement was in place. “She tried really hard to make things work and is heartbroken,” a source close to Lopez told PEOPLE. “The kids are a top priority, as they always have been.”

The pair, who rekindled their romance in 2021, had previously been engaged in 2002 but called off their September 2003 wedding and officially split in January 2004. Despite their initial breakup, they remained on good terms over the years.

Their reconciliation became public in April 2021, following Lopez’s split from former MLB star Alex Rodriguez. The couple went Instagram official in July 2021 and made their red carpet debut at the Venice Film Festival later that year.

As the high-profile couple navigates this difficult time, the future of their relationship remains uncertain.
