- Dignitaries Pay Final Respects at Service of Songs for Late Icon Onyeka Onwenu
On Friday, dignitaries from various sectors gathered at the Fountain of Life Church, Ilupeju, Lagos, for a service of songs honoring the late Nigerian music legend, journalist, and human rights advocate, Onyeka Onwenu.
The event, a heartfelt tribute to the renowned singer and broadcaster, began with a solemn processional hymn as the pallbearers, dressed in traditional Igbo attire, accompanied the body of the “Iyogogo” singer into the church. Onwenu’s two sons, Tijani and Abraham Ogunlende, walked alongside the pallbearers, paying their last respects to their iconic mother.
The service brought together individuals from different walks of life to bid a final farewell, or “aurevoir,” to the woman whose contributions spanned music, journalism, and activism.
The elegant stallion as she was fondly called in her lifetime died on July 30th 2024 at the Reddington Hospital Lagos after performing at a birthday party.
