The Dambe Warriors League (DWL), Nigeria’s leading sports brand dedicated to the ancient martial art of Dambe, has officially announced that its highly anticipated SuperFight 03 will take place at the Velodrome in Abuja on September 15th, 2024.
The event, which has garnered significant attention, follows a formal endorsement from the Ministry of Arts and Culture, marking a pivotal moment for the league.
Anthony Okeleke, co-founder of Dambe Warriors, expressed his excitement: “Abuja has always been a fantastic host for Dambe. The Velodrome offers a phenomenal venue, and we expect a sell-out crowd of around 10,000 spectators. This event will not only entertain but also educate millions about this important Nigerian cultural tradition.”
SuperFight 03 will feature nine thrilling Dambe bouts, including three championship fights and six promotional matchups.
In the Lightweight championship, reigning Season 02 champion Yar Mage will defend his title against rising star Nassarawa. Both fighters had impressive seasons, with Mage finishing 4-1 and Nassarawa close behind at 3-2.
The Middleweight championship will see the formidable Shaaban face newcomer Dongon Messi in a highly anticipated clash. Both warriors ended Season 03 with identical 4-1 records, setting the stage for a showdown between two of Dambe’s greatest athletes. In the Heavyweight division, social media sensation Ali Kanin Bello (AKB) will battle top-ranked Yansanda for the title. Despite Yansanda’s superior season record, AKB enters the fight as the favorite, thanks to his massive online following and fearsome reputation.
In addition to the title fights, six Promotional Fights will also take place, with each winner securing a spot in Season 04 of the Dambe Warriors League. These bouts promise to be some of the most exciting of the evening, as rumors circulate that Eastern European MMA fighters have expressed interest in challenging Nigerian dominance in Dambe.
SuperFight 03 aims to showcase traditional Nigerian art and culture to millions both within Nigeria and globally. The Dambe Warriors League is leveraging this opportunity to expand the sport, providing life-changing opportunities for thousands of Nigerians while attracting a broader domestic and international audience.
The event, backed by an endorsement from the Ministry of Arts and Culture, is also supported by a host of sponsors dedicated to promoting Nigerian culture, including MTN, Bet9ja, Hero Hunter Power Bikes, Infinite Energy Drinks, Odogwu Malay Drinks, Optimus by Afrinvest, Hypo, Power Oil, Pop Cola, AIICO, and others committed to supporting this growing tradition.
