Cristiano Ronaldo, the iconic Portuguese forward, has revealed that he plans to keep his retirement from international football a secret, with no intention of stepping into a coaching role once his playing days are over.
Speaking ahead of the announcement of Portugal’s squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches, the 39-year-old Al-Nassr star discussed his future, expressing his desire to continue representing his country. Ronaldo, who has enjoyed one of the most illustrious careers in football history, stated that when he finally decides to hang up his boots, the decision will be made quietly and without prior notice.
“When I leave the national team, I won’t tell anyone in advance,” Ronaldo told Portuguese channel NOW. “It will be a very spontaneous decision on my part, but also a very well thought-out one.”
Ronaldo, who previously played for clubs like Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Juventus, also dismissed any aspirations of becoming a coach, saying that he doesn’t see his future in football management. “At the moment, I’m not thinking about being a coach of the first team or any team. It doesn’t even cross my mind,” he added.
As Portugal prepares for its Nations League campaign, starting with a match against Croatia on September 5, Ronaldo remains focused on contributing to his team’s success. The veteran forward is also expected to feature for Al-Nassr in their upcoming Saudi Pro League clash against Al-Fayha on Tuesday.
Despite being in the twilight of his career, Ronaldo is determined to keep playing at the highest level, with no immediate plans to retire. His potential departure from the international stage, however, could come at any time, and fans might not know until after the fact.
