Navy Captain Festus Adewuyi, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee for the Navy Sailing Club, has committed to providing robust and transparent leadership if elected as the Club Commodore.
His pledge was made during the manifesto night ahead of the club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday, August 31st, 2024.
Captain Adewuyi described the forthcoming AGM as a turning point for the club, with aspirations to elevate the Navy Sailing Club to new heights.
“I am contesting for the position of Club Commodore to work together with everyone for the club’s benefit. My goal is to ensure that sailing activities return to full capacity, enabling us to produce athletes capable of representing Nigeria at international events,” he stated.
Captain Adewuyi also emphasized his commitment to an open administration that would welcome suggestions and encourage corporate engagement to increase events for sailors. He further revealed that the Nigerian Navy Headquarters has initiated monthly subventions to support the club.
Commodore Mutairu Braimah, Commander of NNS Wey, expressed his support for Adewuyi’s candidacy, highlighting Adewuyi’s administrative expertise and potential to position the club among the ranks of international sailing clubs. He urged members to unite for the club’s growth, acknowledging the significant challenges ahead.
Other candidates who addressed the manifesto night included Chima S. Samson for Vice Commodore, Olabode Simon for Rear Commodore, Vivian Osas for Membership Secretary, Orji Monday for Sailing Secretary, and Abdulsalam Jamilu for Works Secretary.
Notably, all candidates are running unopposed, while several offices remain vacant due to a lack of declared interest.
The screening process for the 2024 AGM was overseen by Chief Levi Abalogu, with assistance from Barrister Akpomera Akpomera and Stephen Krakpe. The 2-day event is scheduled to take place at the Rock View Hotels in Festac Town, Lagos, starting on Friday and concluding on Saturday with the elections.
