BREAKING: Gunmen attack elders’ meeting in Imo State, kill 8

 

Okwe, Imo State, August 5, 2024 – Tragedy struck the Okwe community in Onuimo Local Government Area of Imo State over the weekend when gunmen invaded a meeting of local elders, killing eight and setting three of the bodies ablaze.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear. A viral video showing the lifeless bodies of the victims suggests the elders were having a gathering when the assailants struck. The shocking incident has plunged the community into mourning.

State police spokesman Henry Okoye confirmed the attack and assured the public that an investigation is underway. “This is very unfortunate. The Command is saddened by this tragic incident. Investigation is ongoing to unravel the miscreants responsible for this dastardly act and make them face the full wrath of the law,” Okoye stated.

Authorities are working to uncover the reasons behind the attack and bring those responsible to justice, as the community grapples with the aftermath of this horrific event.
