All is set for the first edition of the Nigeria International Athletes Association meet billed to hold at the Sports Complex of the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos on July 13, 2024.
The meet which is aimed at discovering talents in the mould of Chidi Imoh, Innocent Egbunike, Falilat Ogunkoya, Mary Onyali, Fatima Yusuf, Endurance Ojokolo, Adewale Olukoju and many others is expected to attract many young athletes from invited schools.
The event is a brain child of ex-Nigeria International Athletes Association with specifics for track and field stars who schooled in the USA and have come together to organise the competition as a way of giving back to the sport of athletics that brought them fame and fortune.
“It is also aimed at the discovery of new talents that will represent the country in International completions in future,” according to the coordinator, George Ogbeide, a former Long jumper of repute.
He further stated that the event is one to behold as it promises to discover younger talents for the country.
Tony Osheku, who is the Technical Director of the programme for the one day event stated that the students from around the country will feature in 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 4x400m, Long Jump and Shot Put.
Some of the invited schools are Brightville College, Ibadan, The Bells Comprehensive Secondary School,
Ota and Faith Academy, Ota; Ogun State. Others are FPS from Ilorin, Nigerian Tulip International College, Abuja, Victory College, Ikare, Saint Dominic, Akure; Ondo State.
The event is expected to have the ex-international athletes currently in the country will grace the occasion to help encourage the students.
