Tinubu endorses Nigeria’s re-election bid into FIFA Council

 

Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has announced his support for Nigeria’s bid to secure re-election to the FIFA Council, the principal decision-making body of the organization during the intervals between FIFA Congress meetings.

The FIFA Council consists of 37 members elected by the FIFA Congress for renewable four-year terms. According to a statement from Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Amaju Pinnick, the two-term President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), was elected to the Council in March 2021. Pinnick became the third Nigerian to hold this position, following the late Oyo Orok Oyo and Amos Adamu.

Pinnick is now seeking re-election to the Council, and President Tinubu has expressed his full support for Nigeria’s effort to retain its seat in this influential body.
