The shooter from the Trump rally is dead, Butler County’s district attorney says. One spectator is also dead and another is in “serious condition,” the DA says. NBC News’ Tom Winter reports on what is known about the shooter.
In a shocking incident on Saturday, a gunman had attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump.
The gunman was identified as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, sources revealed to The Post.
Crooks, a resident of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, opened fire at an outdoor rally in Butler, near Pittsburgh. One of the shots grazed Trump in the ear. According to sources, Crooks had positioned himself on the roof of a manufacturing plant over 130 yards away from the stage at Butler Farm Show grounds.
The gunman was neutralized by Secret Service snipers, and an AR-style rifle was recovered at the scene. Bethel Park, Crooks’ hometown, is located approximately 40 miles south of Butler.
The motive behind Crooks’ attack on the presumptive Republican presidential nominee remains unclear.
