Paris, France — Kylian Mbappe is set to become the majority owner of Caen Football Club at just 25 years old.
According to a report by Le Parisien monitored by peak news.ng, the Real Madrid star will invest nearly €20 million (£17 million/$22 million) to acquire the majority of shares in the club, with Pierre-Antin Capton retaining the remaining shares valued at €5 million (£4.2 million/$5.4 million).
Mbappe’s acquisition comes amid his lucrative tenure at Real Madrid, where he earns a reported net wage of €15 million (£13 million/$16 million) annually.
Although this is a significant reduction from his previous contract with Paris Saint-Germain, a signing bonus exceeding €100 million (£84 million/$108 million) over his contract duration compensates for the difference. Forbes recently estimated his endorsement deals to be worth $20 million (£16 million), highlighting his substantial wealth.
Interestingly, Mbappe was once on the verge of signing with Caen as a youngster. The club recognized his potential early on, and his family viewed it as a nurturing environment for his development. However, the deal fell through following Caen’s relegation from Ligue 1.
In the immediate future, Mbappe is focused on making his debut for Real Madrid, expected next month in the UEFA Super Cup. Looking ahead, he aims to influence Caen’s fortunes positively, with the club currently in France’s second tier since 2019.
There is also the intriguing possibility of Mbappe playing for his own club in the future, much like Didier Drogba did at USL side Phoenix Rising in 2017.
