Kano State House of Assembly Passes Bill Establishing Second Class Emirates

Kano, Nigeria – The Kano State House of Assembly on Tuesday passed a bill into law to establish second-class emirates in the state.

The bill, initially read before the House adjourned for recess, was revisited upon their return on Monday. During Tuesday’s plenary session, presided over by Speaker Jibril Falgore, the Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Butubutu, moved for the adoption and passage of the bill after its second and third readings.

The new second-class emirates to be created include:

Rano Emirate: Rano-Bunkure, Kibiya
Karaye Emirate: Karaye-Rogo
Gaya Emirate: Gaya-Ajingi, Albasu
The establishment of these emirates comes amidst a longstanding Emirship tussle between Emir Muhammad Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero, which has persisted for two years.
