The Lagos State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) says Nigeria and Igbo nation have lost a bright star with the death of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President-General of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

The Secretary of the party in the state, Mr Sam Okpala, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos.

Okpala said: “It is a big blow to the Igbo nation. The death, honestly, is shocking and a sad one for us, especially at a time when the Igbo socio-cultural organisation is trying to find its footing.

“It is a big and great loss to the nation, and Igbos. Chief Iwuanyanwu will be greatly missed by all. He was a statesman and a pan-Nigerian.

“Nigeria and the Igbos have lost a star, we will greatly miss him ,his wise counsels and we will always remember him for his contributions to the progress of the country and the Igbos,” the LP scribe said.

NAN reports that Iwuanyanwu died on Thursday in Abuja, aged 82 ,after a brief illness. (NAN)
