Mangu, Plateau State – Suspected Fulani herdsmen attacked the Kubat community in Bwai District, Mangu Local Government Area, resulting in significant destruction of farmlands and leaving one person injured.
The Media Secretary of the Mwaghavul Youth Movement, Tubwot Joel Sunday, reported that the attack occurred on Wednesday when a group of Fulani militia from Yidel Hamlet in Murish Community launched an assault, injuring Mr. Manasseh Datip. Datip is currently receiving treatment at the Jos University Teaching Hospital, Jos.
This latest incident follows a similar attack last week by Fulani herdsmen from Bokkos Local Government Area, which also targeted the same community and resulted in extensive farmland destruction.
Tubwot revealed that many residents have abandoned their farms and sought refuge in nearby communities or internally displaced persons (IDP) camps. He noted that this pattern of violence has been ongoing since the deadly 2023 Christmas Eve attacks on Barkin Ladi, Bokkos, and Mangu, where over 200 people were killed. These attacks often involve the invasion and devastation of farmlands, as well as violence against villagers.
“Predating the above, several farmlands were destroyed by the same Fulani herdsmen in Mangul of Kantoma Community. We’re glad that so far, arrests have been made in that regard except for the attack on Kubat Community,” Tubwot stated.
He condemned the resurgence of unprovoked assaults on Mwaghavul communities, which have increased casualties, injuries, and property destruction. The Mwaghavul Youth Movement has called on the authorities to take immediate action to ensure justice.
“The Mwaghavul Youth Movement urges President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, being the General Commander in Chief of The Armed Forces, to immediately investigate the attacks and ensure that those responsible are held accountable and be dealt with to serve as a deterrent to other criminals,” Tubwot declared.
The group also demanded adequate security measures to protect Kubat, Murish, and other affected communities and urged stakeholders in Plateau State’s peace processes to condemn these attacks on innocent and harmless people.
