Federal Executive Council approves N1.455 Trillion road projects and health initiatives

The Federal Executive Council (FEC), presided over by President Bola Tinubu, has approved the implementation of road projects across various states worth approximately N1.455 trillion. This was disclosed by Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, following the council meeting at the Council Chambers, Abuja.

Road Projects Approved:
Abeokuta-Iboro-Ilaro Road, Ogun State:

Contractor: Strabic Construction
Contract Sum: N57 billion
Mubi to Maiduguri Road (Section 3):

Contractor: MESSRS Decency Associates Limited
Contract Sum: N89 billion
Note: This is an NNPC project.
Mubi to Maiduguri Road (Section 2):

Contract Sum: N67 billion
Note: Re-procured for rigid pavement following Borno State Governor’s request.
Natalla-Buru, Kano State:

Status: Stepped down for funding discussion with the National Assembly.
Benin-Akure-Ilesha Road:

Length: 150 km (dualized to 300 km)
Contractor: HiTech Construction
Contract Sum: N525 billion
Benin-Akure (Section 2):

Length: 66 km (dualized)
Contractor: HiTech Construction
Contract Sum: N286 billion
Angingali-Udobi-Udona-Umo-Uwana-Ubalaka, Imo State:

Contract Sum: Increased from N14 billion to N26.46 billion

Ofin-Oreta Road, Ikorodu, Lagos State:

Health Initiatives:
Minister of Health and Coordinating Minister for Social Work, Ali Pate, announced the approval of the purchase of 7,887 dialysis consumables to enhance healthcare access for citizens suffering from kidney diseases. This approval aims to address the rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases such as hypertension and diabetes.

Legal and Anti-Corruption Measures:
Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, announced the approval of three key memos aimed at combating crime and corruption. This includes a comprehensive strategy involving investigation, prosecution, and post-conviction processes, with a focus on international cooperation, particularly with Spain. The agreements facilitate the exchange of information, assistance in apprehending fugitives, and the transfer of convicted individuals to serve sentences in their home countries.

These measures underscore the government’s commitment to enhancing infrastructure, healthcare, and legal frameworks to ensure national development and stability.
