CDS seeks stronger ties with South African Defence Forces to combat insurgency

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has called for enhanced cooperation between the Armed Forces of Nigeria and the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) to address insurgency and other multifaceted security challenges plaguing the African continent.

General Musa made this appeal during his visit to the Chief of SANDF, General Rudzani Maphwanya, in Pretoria, South Africa. Describing the meeting as crucial for tackling the continent’s diverse security issues, General Musa emphasized the necessity of reinforcing bilateral ties to ensure peace and stability across Africa.

In a statement signed by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, it was revealed that the closed-door meeting focused on various measures to address regional security challenges. This included the exchange of expertise and forging stronger ties between Nigeria and South Africa for the betterment of the continent.

General Musa was honored with cannon gun salutes during his visit, a mark of high regard. The meeting was attended by SANDF’s Chiefs of Intelligence, Policy and Plans, International Affairs, and Joint Operations, along with other departmental chiefs of SANDF.

This collaboration aims to leverage the strengths of both nations’ armed forces to effectively combat insurgency and enhance regional security.
