Abuja, July 14, 2024 (NAN) Dr Hamza Al-Mustapha, President, APUDI Institute for Peace Studies and Social Rehabilitation (APIS), has called for synergy to revive institutions in Nigeria.
Al-Mustapha said this on the sidelines of the 2022/2023 End of Course Work Dinner Party and Awards Night of APIS in Abuja on Saturday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the institute is a School of Postgraduate Studies and an affiliate of Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
He said Nigeria needed professionals to help address the challenges facing the country.
“This country is in dire need of professional hands to support it at this critical time now that Nigeria is being faced with numerous challenges at home and outside.
“At home, Nigeria is certainly faced with certain challenges from the failed institutions across the country.
“So, there is a need to synergize, all hands together to get institutions revived for our common good.”
Al-Mustapha urged the students not to relax at this stage but to brace up to complete their research work successfully, come up with new issues and exhibit their innate qualities.
“My message is for them to be on their feet because they have just started until they are through with their research work, and finish in flying colours.
“Then the institute will acknowledge them, for their families and indeed the country,” he said.
Prof. Suleiman Mohammed, Former Vice-Chancellor, Nasarawa State University, also urged the students to do critical research that would generate knowledge, support policy and provide solutions to challenges in their chosen fields.
Mohammed advised the students to ensure their research was original, noting that the era of going to other universities to get research topics was over.
“ We expect you to come up with research that will be relevant to the socio-economic development of the country.
“ You must have a culture of excellence in your research work so you will be proud of yourselves and the nation will be proud of you too,” he said.
Mrs Caroline Faturoti, a PhD student, who spoke on behalf of the students, said they had faced challenges but they had emerged stronger and ready to contribute to society.
“We are looking forward to our thesis because this is just the end of coursework. We still have that task ahead of us.
“ Today is significant because we are taking another dimension and perspective to life and to what we are going to give back to society.
“I work with NBS and I am doing social statistics. That is adding my background to my academic life and putting them together so I can be beneficial to myself and contribute to society,” she said.
Samuel Azi, another student said he and his coursemate would ensure their research work adds value to society.
“ I come from a background of engineering and looking at the diversity of knowledge, we believe we are going to do our best and add value to society.”
NAN reports that the Award of Excellence was given to Al-Mustapha and Prof. Danladi Atu, Director, APIS. (NAN)
