Tinubu congratulates Ramaphosa on re-election as South Africa’s President

Abuja, Nigeria – June 17, 2024 – President Bola Tinubu has extended his congratulations to President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa on his re-election. He also commended the people of South Africa for the peaceful and successful conduct of their general election.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu expressed his best wishes for President Ramaphosa’s upcoming term. He emphasized the importance of strengthening bilateral ties between Nigeria and South Africa, highlighting the need for both nations to work as strategic partners for the advancement of the African continent.

Cyril Ramaphosa was recently  re-elected as South Africa’s president for a second term after his party struck a last-minute deal with political rivals.

Ramaphosa’s African National Congress, which came to power in 1994 after waging a decades-long battle against apartheid, lost its majority for the first time in an election last month and spent two weeks locked in intensive behind-the-scenes talks with other parties.
