
Gwoza, Borno State – At least six people were killed and numerous others injured in a bomb attack at a wedding venue in Tashan Mararaba, Gwoza town, on Saturday.
According to security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, the bomber, a young woman in her early twenties, detonated her explosive device amidst the wedding gathering, resulting in chaos and destruction.
Intelligence sources disclosed to Makama that the victims, all civilians, were returning from a wedding celebration when the attack occurred near a busy motorpark. Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene to rescue the injured and transport them to hospitals in Gwoza.
Medical personnel reported that six people were confirmed dead, while fifteen others sustained injuries from the blast.
Borno State Commissioner of Police (CP) Yusuf Lawal, speaking with reporters in Maiduguri, the state capital, confirmed the attack. He stated that the female suicide bomber was responsible for the tragic incident. Lawal added that the Divisional Police Officer in Gwoza informed him about the casualties, noting that six people were killed and fifteen others were evacuated to the hospital.
The attack underscores the persistent security challenges in the region and the ongoing threat to civilians in conflict-affected areas.
