Drama unfolded in the Mista Ali community of Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State, as the sacrificial ram of the Chief Imam, Imam Abdulkadir, went missing on the eve of Ed-el-Kabir. The ram was reportedly stolen during a heavy downpour in the area.
The incident was disclosed by Imam Haruna Yaqub during his sermon, shortly after the two Raka’at prayers. Expressing his dismay, Yaqub condemned the theft as an act of insensitivity, highlighting a disturbing lack of fear for God within the community.
“The Ram of our Chief Imam, which he purposely bought to sacrifice, has been stolen in the night. We are really shocked by the incident. We were surprised to hear this story. This means that people are not God-fearing,” said Yaqub. He added, “It is scary that people have gone to the extent of stealing a ram meant for a religious activity.”
Imam Yaqub used the opportunity to urge the community to embrace fear of God and abstain from criminal activities. He emphasized the importance of accountability for one’s actions both on earth and in the hereafter.
“It is high time people repented and took the path of Allah. It is not too late. People should stop committing bad things and act according to Allah’s commandments,” he urged.
The theft of the Chief Imam’s ram has cast a shadow over the Ed-el-Kabir celebrations in Mista Ali, underscoring the need for greater piety and moral rectitude within the community.
