The House of Representatives Committee on Public Assets has ordered the arrest of a director from the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology (NCAT) and an auctioneer in connection with the sale of two helicopters for $1 billion.
The directive was issued by the committee’s chairman, Ademorin Kuye, during an investigative hearing held yesterday. Kuye instructed the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to take charge of the investigation into the alleged indiscriminate sale of the helicopters by NCAT.
The committee is currently probing the status of public assets across the country, with a mandate to recover assets valued at trillions of naira, including moribund public properties within and outside Nigeria.
Kuye expressed his dismay during the hearing, noting that the two helicopters, initially acquired for $2.4 billion, were sold for $1.2 billion without following due process.
“We requested documents related to any joint ventures, but received no response, whether you have them or not,” Kuye stated. “We asked for a list of assets, including comprehensive descriptions and specifications of all your listed assets, rented apartments, acquisition dates and methods, and the current status and conditions of such assets. Your responses have not adequately satisfied these requests, though you attempted to answer some of them.”
The committee remains committed to uncovering the full extent of this transaction and ensuring accountability in the management of public assets.
