Abuja, Nigeria – President Bola Tinubu has approved the National Construction and Household Support Programme, as announced during the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting on Thursday in Abuja.
The programme aims to boost agricultural productivity, strengthen the economy, and provide immediate economic relief for Nigerian households, according to a statement by presidential spokesman Ajuri Ngelale.
Supported by the NEC, the programme includes financial allocations and infrastructure projects across all geopolitical zones of the country. A significant component is the approval of a N50,000 uplift grant to be distributed to 100,000 families per state for three months.
In addition, N155 billion has been earmarked for the purchase and distribution of assorted foodstuffs nationwide to address food security and affordability concerns.
The programme also encompasses key infrastructure projects. Among these is the Sokoto-Badagry Highway, which will traverse seven states and is critical for agricultural sustainability. These states form the nation’s food belt.
Other infrastructure initiatives include the ongoing Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Trans-Saharan Highway. President Tinubu also approved full counterpart financing for the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri Railway and the Ibadan-Abuja segment of the Lagos-Kano Standard-Gauge Railway.
Furthermore, the NEC approved the allocation of N10 billion to each state and the Federal Capital Territory for the procurement of buses and the implementation of the Compressed Natural Gas Uplift Programme.
This comprehensive programme is set to bolster economic stability and support households across Nigeria, addressing immediate and long-term developmental needs.
